UPDATE: Little girl at Obama town hall has political ties to Obama

(H/T) Michelle Malkin:  The little girl from Obama’s town hall today has not-so-random political connections.  The Boston Globe reports the following:

A girl from Malden asked President Obama a question at Tuesday’s town hall meeting in New Hampshire about the signs outside “saying mean things” about his health care proposal.

Eleven-year-old Julia Hall asked: “How do kids know what is true, and why do people want a new system that can — that help more of us?”

The question opened the door for the president to respond to what he called an “underlying fear” among the public “that people somehow won’t get the care they need.”

The girl later told the Globe that picking the president’s brain was “incredible.”

“It was like a once in a lifetime experience,” she said.

Julia’s mother was an early Obama supporter in Massachusetts during the presidential election, so she had previously met First Lady Michelle Obama, the Obama daughters Sasha and Malia, and Vice President Joe Biden.

“This was my first time meeting Barack Obama, and he’s a very nice man,” Julia said. “I’m glad I voted for him.”

She said Obama won a mock presidential election at the Cheverus School in 2008. And on Tuesday, he approached her after the town meeting.

“He said ‘great question,’” Julia said. “I shook his hand and got his picture.”

Kathleen Manning Hall, Julia’s mother, was shocked when her daughter said she wanted to ask a question. They wrote it down beforehand, and Julia didn’t miss a beat when Obama called on her.

“It was surreal,” said Manning Hall, a coordinator of Massachusetts Women for Obama during the election.

As it turns out the little girl’s mother, Kathleen Manning Hall,  has actually donated thousands of dollars to him, as has her law firm.  But, as Obama said “I don’t want people saying I just have a bunch of plants in here.”  Of coarse he doesn’t!  How silly of anyone to think such a thing!

  1. John Citizen says:

The fact that the NH townhall meeting with Obama was filled with so many supporters may be easy to explain, even by a non-geek like me. Keep this recent article in mind when you follow my logic below: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/10/AR2009081002743_pf.html – U.S. Web-Tracking Plan Stirs Privacy Fears

    Something to think about:
Remember that the White House has hired technically savvy people to handle their web presence, not to mention the campaign that put Obama into the White House. Google employees and others have joined the Administration.
The White House has frequently asked the public to submit questions and comments on various issues. People who do so typically fill in government web forms.
This process allows the WH to collect email and IP addresses for perhaps several million people. I’ll bet it also allows them to sort those comments according to the views expressed — opponents vs.supporters.
A presorted database would be a goldmine for controlling who gets access to Obama events.
All the WH would have to do to keep opponents out of a townhall is to program their computer to crosscheck all applicants for townhall tickets or other venues. If the IP or email address shows up on the opponents list, the computer ignores the request. If it shows up on the supporter database, it gets placed into the lottery.

  2. Percy Pierre says:

Tickets to the town hall meeting were available online. What is the big deal. No conspiracy here. She was there with her mom – an Obama support. Who else would attend an Obama townhall meeting. You conspiracy theorist are one donut short of a dozen.

  3. javabeanwill says:

It’s true that the tickets were available online and that Obama supporters would want to attend the event. However, not just anyone who applied for the tickets could attend. When asked by Today show co-host Meredith Vieira asks the question “Did the administration stack the deck with supporters in New Hampshire?” chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd responded with the following:

No. I got two words for you: the Secret Service. In order to get in, to get a ticket for the president’s town hall you had to log in last week. You had to get and hope you got picked randomly. You have to submit your date of birth, your Social Security number, in order to be that close to the president. It’s not like a member of Congress or any Tom, Dick, or Harry can just walk in at the end of the day kind of like a city council meeting.

So, the Obama administration could have easily filtered out anyone who might have actually had a tough question or gave the slightest appearance of disagreeing with his, actually Pelosi’s and Waxman’s, plan.

I for one would like to see Obama actually take a touch question from someone concerning the health care plan. If there is no conspiracy there sure is the fishy smell of one when the facts seems to show that he only seems to ever receive questions from people who have donated thousands of dollars to his campaign or have worked with and/or for the Democratic party. Maybe we should report this fishiness to the white house at flag@whitehouse.gov which actually violates the 1974 privacy act which prohibits the President and the government from collecting data on private citizens.

  4. Immigrant from communism says:

On local news in Boston a reporter interviewed someone who had tried to get it – standing in front of rows of buses – the kindly gentleman said he could not get in because there were so many people bused in from Massachusetts. They filled the hall with Obama adoration, of course there would be no yelling, they were all entranced.
